Bridges out of Poverty: “Poverty in the Workplace”

Presented by: Mr. Vern Reed, Bridges Program Trainer

Mr. Reed will challenge our view on poverty within our specific companies and communities. He will introduce concepts that will allow attendees to view poverty through a lens that will help HR professionals identify poverty within their own workforce and provide them with the necessary tools to address the underlying issues.

During this presentation MVHRA Members will learn about the following topics:

    • How poverty within companies and communities can affect their methods of workforce       recruitment and retention.
    • About the impact of employee benefits; such as: insurance (health, dental, life etc.); daycare;       tuition reimbursement; and a comprehensive wellness plan can have on poverty in the       workplace.
    • How poverty may correlate with workplace behaviors; such as absenteeism and employee       conflicts and how to address the underlying issue of poverty.

At the conclusion of this presentation attendees will: leave with basic knowledge of “hidden rules” and how to help their employees build the resources and supports to live sustainable lives. The goal is for each person to begin viewing the workplace through the Bridges Lens. This learning provides an opportunity for employer representatives to look at their workplace practices in a way that can improve recruitment and retention.
