Return to Work:  A Team Approach

Presented by Dr. Rachel Oliverio, Physician, Great River Medical Center &

Lisa Nafziger, Integration Coordinator, Great River Clinics

Occupational Medicine Physician Rachel Oliverio D.O., M.P.H. and Business Development Professional Lisa Nafziger, both of Great River Business Health, will discuss the many benefits employers experience by utilizing an occupational medicine clinic. Pre-employment physicals, drug testing & post injury care are only a few of the services offered. Organizations who utilize occupational medicine clinics prefer the ongoing communication provided to everyone involved, including employees, employers, workman’s compensation   representatives, & case management nurses. This valuable communication is the greatest difference between an occupational medicine clinic & a family practice facility. Returning an injured employee to work is a team approach.

MVHRA members will learn the advantages of working as a team with an occupational medicine clinic to plan ahead for all types of situations that might occur when employees are at work or recuperating from work related injuries.  Members will gain insight into when it’s ok to use post-accident drug testing, how to make those reasonable suspicion calls, and why it’s important to have more than one manager document investigation findings. Employers can save money, headaches and heartaches by having a plan in place for their company and its employees in the event of an emergency.

Rachel Oliverio, D.O., M.P.H. has been an Occupational Medicine Physician at Great River Business Health since 2011.  She works alongside local businesses to ensure the health of the working population. She has a Medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. As the Chief Preventive Medicine Resident at the University of Maryland Baltimore she gained hands on experience in grant writing, clinical medicine, and academics through several federal agencies including ODPHP, AHQR & Office of the Surgeon General.

Lisa Nafziger is a long time member of MVHRA. Since 2007, her roles at Great River Business Health have included Integration Coordinator, Account Manager, & Business Development. Lisa has actively assisted in the growth of Great River Business Health from 30 to over 1,000 accounts.

Great River Business Health is part of Great River Medical Center. It is an associate of WORKSAFE IOWA, a multidisciplinary outreach program that offers consultation services in industrial hygiene, product safety, ergonomics and occupational medicine.
