“Conducting Workplace Investigations”

During this presentation: Ms. Harrison will discuss the challenges of conducting workplace investigations, including the NLRB position on confidentiality and instructions to the participants in the investigation not to discuss it. She will also discuss the liability associated with taking disciplinary action against participants in the investigation.
At the conclusion of this presentation attendees will understand:
- How to plan and conduct investigations into workplace issues and assess what action needs to be taken
- The impact of social media and mobile communication in the investigation process
- How to comply with the NLRB rules and regulations regarding workplace investigations
- The importance of gathering and documenting evidence in an investigation including determining the order of interviews, considering the flow of information you need to collect.
Speaker’s Background & Experience:
Gayla Harrison is an attorney with Harrison, Moreland, Webber & Simplot, P.C. She represents primarily employers in the whole spectrum of employment issues and has served as the investigator on a variety of complains. She is a frequent speaker for the Central Iowa chapter of SHRM and has served as the Chair of the Labor and Employment Law Section Council of the Iowa State Bar Association.
