“Preventing Workplace Injuries and Promoting Wellbeing”
Presented by: Laura Keniston, Outreach Coordinator, University of Iowa
During this presentation, Mrs. Keniston will illustrate the impact of work on worker wellbeing and establish the business case for health and safety interventions in the workplace. Attendees will participate in an active learning activity to identify workplace hazards.
After participating in this session, attendees will be able to:
• Identify workplace hazards and the impact on wellbeing
• Understand the benefits of using interactive activities to identify and control workplace hazards
• Recognize the components of an effective wellbeing intervention
• Learn about resources that are available to address wellbeing in the workplace
Speaker’s Background & Experience:
Laura is the Outreach Coordinator for the University of Iowa’s Healthier Workforce Center of the Midwest. She received her MHA from Des Moines University and BS in Psychology from the University of Iowa. She has direct experience working with local employers, case managers, injured employees, and occupational health providers to facilitate return to work for individuals recovering from work-related injuries. This experience fueled her passion for protecting the wellbeing of workers. Her work at the Healthier Workforce Center focuses on developing and disseminating evidence-based tools and resources for employers to support the life-long wellbeing of the workforce.
