Shelly Strawhacker has worked for Alcohol and Drug Dependency Services of SE IA as a
Certified Prevention Specialist for 4 years, 2.5 years on the Integrated Provider Network
grant and 1.5 years on the State Opioid Response grant. She previously had a career in
education as a teacher for 20 years. Her progression to prevention combined her love of
education with the passion she has for helping people
Mary J. Reed has worked for Alcohol and Drug Dependency Services of SE IA as a
Prevention Specialist on the Integrated Provider Network grant for the past 1.5 years. She
is a social work professional who works to educate Area School Systems and Education
Agencies, Institutions of Higher Education, and Community Partners and Coalitions on the
substance use/misuse field.
Both are professionals who use a specialized set of knowledge, experience, training and
skills to encourage healthy attitudes and behaviors which prevent the abuse of alcohol,
tobacco and other drugs. Their roles are to empower individuals and communities to assess
needs and to develop and implement strategies that effectively meet those needs.
