“Tips & Trends from the 2020 National Survey of Employer Sponsored Health Plans”

During this presentation, Angela, Jennifer and Jim will focus on Tips & Trends from Mercer’s 2020 national benchmark data on employer sponsored benefit plans.  They will be sharing data based on the responses of ~2000 employers of all sizes & industries.  They will walk you thru national and Midwest trends in costs and plan offerings: medical plans, voluntary plans, life/STD/LTD.  Strategies will be provided for you & your leadership to think thru for 2021.  

Participants should gain an increased awareness and understanding of:

• Current day and an overview of employer benefit plan trends and costs seen in 2020. 
• Employee Benefit Plan Administration Strategies for 2021.
• Cost saving strategies for benefit plans.  

Speaker’s Background & Experience:

Angela Villager is the lead strategist and business leader with Mercer Iowa. She has worked with employers, employees, and carriers/vendors for 30+ years in Iowa and across the nation.  Angela leads the health and benefit consulting and brokerage teams in both the Hiawatha and Urbandale locations.  Her expertise includes strategy, plan design, carrier negotiation, employee education and funding.  Angela advises many clients in the state of Iowa and is a speaker at many events.  Mercer has approximately 2,000 employees in Iowa. Angela lives with her family in Iowa City and is a graduate of the University of Iowa.

Jennifer is the relationship manager for Mercer Iowa.  She works with the local Iowa and national strategic consulting teams of Marsh McLellan and is the liaison to all professional consulting services, solutions and resources. She brings a wealth of insight from 20+ years in pharmaceutical world as an account manager for several of the largest health systems in the Midwest. She joined Mercer in 2016. Jennifer is a proud Iowan, Hawkeye grad and farm girl.  She lives with her family in Solon. She is actively involved in state and local communities: EIHRA board member; CVSHRM contributing member; MVSHRM contributing member; Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance Ambassador; Iowa Corn Grower board member; Solon Booster Club.

Jim Green has been with Mercer since 2004, and has been in our Des Moines office since 2009. In addition to leading the Des Moines consulting team, Jim serves as a Client Lead and Relationship Manager on larger clients with complex structures and challenging strategic needs. His focus is on areas of strategy and financial impact for employers, including underwriting and cost projections, trend mitigation, employee engagement and communication strategies, health and wellbeing solutions, technology and benefit outsourcing options, and compliance support.
