“Iowa’s Wage and Child Labor Laws”

During this presentation MVHRA Members will learn about the following topics:

• Specifics of Iowa’s deduction law

• Whether or not to pay for training and travel time 
• How to handle a final paycheck for an employee
• Vacation/PTO issues that that attendees may be having and what the law states or doesn’t state regarding this topic
• What’s Iowa’s minimum wage
• Requirements for hiring minors

At the conclusion of this presentation attendees will: be able to ensure that their employer is compliant with Iowa’s Wage and Child Labor laws.  Address issues that may be in their employee manual. Look to hire minors to fill some of their labor needs and be assured they know the requirements.

Biography:

Karen Pfab has been an Executive Officer for Iowa Workforce Development, Division of Labor Services, for the past 4 years. She is responsible for the administration of Iowa Wage and Child Labor, which includes the resolution of wage claims and child labor enforcement. She was a Field Auditor and Supervisor with the Unemployment Insurance Tax Bureau of Iowa Workforce Development for 19 years. Prior to that, she was an Auditor with the Auditor of State’s Office for over 5 years. Karen graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting.
